Who We Are

A refiner built around the full chain, not one link in it.

Spirou Group Refinery is a Uganda-based gold & rare earth mineral refinery specializing in smelting and refining. We purify gold sourced from non-conflict areas of East Africa, with a growing footprint across Kenya, Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Because we're involved from sourcing through smelting, assaying and delivery, we can offer buyers a shorter, more transparent, more accountable route from the ground to the finished bar than a business that only handles one part of that chain.

Our head office is based in Kampala, where our team manages sourcing relationships, compliance, and client delivery across the region.

What We Do

Spirou operates across the full gold value chain.

A supply chain a buyer, bank, or partner can follow from source to bar — rather than one that starts only once gold has already changed hands several times.

Sourcing

We work directly with mining operations and cooperatives in non-conflict areas of Uganda and neighbouring countries.

Smelting & Refining

Raw material is smelted and refined on-site into doré bars and gold nuggets.

Assaying

Every batch is assayed to confirm purity before it moves further down the chain.

Logistics & Delivery

We support both CIF and FOB terms — buyers are welcome to arrange physical inspection prior to purchase.

Our Approach

From artisanal roots to regional scale.

"Start with the artisanal and small-scale base. Formalise it. Scale it responsibly."

Uganda's gold sector, like much of East Africa's, runs on artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) — individuals and small teams working existing sites, often without easy access to formal buyers, fair pricing, or compliance support.

Spirou's model starts there. We work directly with artisanal and small-scale miners, giving them a licensed, accountable route to market. As those relationships mature, we grow alongside them — investing in better equipment, more consistent offtake, and stronger local infrastructure.

This is deliberately a community story, not only a supply-chain one: fairer prices, steadier income, and a larger share of Uganda's gold value staying inside the country and region.

Why Uganda, Why Now

A fast-growing sector, and a still-open field.

Uganda's gold export sector has grown quickly, with new refineries driving record export revenues and positioning the country as a significant processing hub — not only a pass-through point for raw material.

Uganda doesn't yet have a large number of refiners positioned to meet the LBMA Good Delivery standard. That's exactly the space Spirou is building toward.

LBMA Good Delivery
The international benchmark: verifiable licensing, transparent sourcing, rigorous assaying.
Built for the standard, from day one
Compliance and traceability as a foundation — not something retrofitted later.
Responsible & Compliant by Design

Trust, built to be checked.

SOURCING

Non-conflict, by policy

We source only from non-conflict areas of Uganda and neighbouring countries, under Ugandan mining and export licensing.

DUE DILIGENCE

Open to inspection

We support buyer and bank due diligence at every stage of a transaction, including physical inspection prior to purchase.

STANDARDS

Building toward LBMA

Our compliance, sourcing-verification, and reporting practices are built toward the standards banks and buyers require.

Looking Ahead

Let's talk.

We welcome the opportunity to talk with partners, buyers, and investors who share our view that Uganda's gold sector — built responsibly, from the ground up — represents a significant and durable opportunity.
